PEER BUDDY PROGRAM
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To help the student with special needs develop friendships at Edgewood through contact in natural settings and planned activities.

2. To develop sensitivity and awareness towards students with special needs through regular contact and planned activities.

3. To follow through with your peer buddy commitments responsibly.

4. To greet each student with special needs from Mrs. Hodge’s/Ms. Clarke’s classroom when you see them at school, whether they are your buddy or not. Also say good-bye to them when appropriate.

5. To give compliments to peer buddy for making good choices and using positive social skills.

6. To seek help from an adult when facing a stressful situation with your peer buddy. We do not expect you to be in charge of your buddy, just a friend at school.

7. To accept constructive feedback from Mrs. Hodge/Ms. Clarke as needed.

8. To show respect for students with special needs at all times.

9. To be a positive role model for your peer buddy.

10. To provide leadership when with your buddy in terms of activities. (Invite your peer buddy to play a specific game or participate in a specific activity at lunch. In class, sit with your peer buddy to offer assistance and socialize when appropriate.)

11. HAVE FUN!

EXPECTATIONS

1. Complete all of your assignments on time. Please speak with your Peer Buddy Teacher if you are unclear about an assignment or need assistance.

2. Remain with your Peer Buddy during class. This is not a time for you to socialize with your friends. If you have time in class to socialize bring your Peer Buddy along and introduce them to your friends.

3. Follow the classroom rules set up by the teacher when you are a Peer Buddy in another exploratory class.

4. Once you are assigned a Peer Buddy, you may not see your teacher regularly unless you are helping someone in her class. Please be sure to attend all of the scheduled “Peer Buddy Discussion Days”. The dates for these meetings are listed below. These meetings will take place in Mrs. Hodge’s room 217.

5. Turn your journals into Mrs. Hodge (217), or Ms. Clarke’s (232) room by the scheduled due date. Late journals will lose points.

6. You must attend one after school activity with the Amazing Amigos Club. Your Peer Buddy teacher will give you a list of possible activities.

7. Attend one lunch group meeting each month, for a total of 5 lunch group meetings.

8. Please feel free to see Mrs. Hodge/Ms. Clarke at any time if you have any questions or concerns you would like to discuss.
